Year 5 Newsletters
Y5 - Autumn 2015
Dear Parents/Carers,
Welcome back to school and we hope you have all had a fantastic summer.
You will find a curriculum map of the main activities for this term here. Where appropriate, subjects will be linked to our Geography topic. There will also be a cross-curricular emphasis throughout school on the children understanding and demonstrating British Values. The Department for Education is encouraging all schools to promote Democracy, The Rule of Law, Mutual Respect and Tolerance and Individual Liberty. This will obviously be done at an appropriate level and using suitable vocabulary for the age of the children.
Your child should already have their new personal organiser, please take some time to read the parent agreement and sign this if you haven’t already and feel free to use it for sending messages to school. It is important that you continue to listen to your child read three times a week and record this in their organisers. We will reward children who consistently read at home, so signing your child's organiser helps to make sure they get the recognition they deserve.
As well as reading with your child, please encourage them to practise times tables for 5 minutes each day. The expectation is that they should already know all of the tables up to 12 times 12, although we will be revisiting the 6, 7, 8 and 9 times tables this term. Homework will be given out on a Friday and collected in at the latest on the following Thursday. As well as this, spellings will also be given out weekly and tested on Fridays.
P.E will take place on Tuesdays with Miss Bee (Dance teacher) and Thursday with Mrs North. However, we may also do additional P.E sessions throughout the week, so please ensure your child’s P.E kit is kept in school at all times.
If you have any questions or comments, or would like to help out with anything we are doing in school, then please feel free to come and speak to us.
Thank you for your support,
Miss Postolan and Mrs Moss
