Year 3 Science
Year 3 science Day at Trinity
This day was funded by the Ogden Trust with the purpose of inspiring children to be scientists or interested in science.
It was a fantastic day where the children took part in three fun activities:
- To build the highest tower possible using spaghetti and marshmallows. Despite the very sticky marshmallows we built some amazing towers.
- To build a boat with limited resources – the winner was the one that holds the most marbles without sinking!
- To build a marble launcher – the winner was the launcher that sent the marble furthest through the air, St Marys won this challenge!

Bioblitz with RSPB
A representative from the RSPB spent an afternoon with us looking for living things or evidence of living things in our school grounds. Despite the very cold weather we had a great time with our bug pots, binoculars and magnifiers. Although it was too cold for many creatures to be found, we did spot a few birds and snails, we found a bird’s nest in the hedge and lots of evidence of creatures in the form of nibbled leaves or webs. |

Food Groups
As part of our science topic we have been finding out about healthy balance diets so we sorted food into different groups, finding out the purpose of each type.
Science Week
The National Stone Centre-Derbyshire
Our science topic is Rocks, Fossils and Soils for the first half of the Autumn term and as part of this we had a fantastic day at the National Stone Centre.
Look at the photographs, the children’s recounts of the day and some of their work about quarries.
