Y3- Spring 2016
Dear Parents/Carers,
Welcome back to school and we hope you have all had a wonderful Christmas.
You will find a curriculum map of the main activities for this term on the back of this page. Where appropriate, learning will be linked to our History topic about the Ancient Egyptians. There will continue to be a cross-curricular emphasis throughout school on the children understanding and demonstrating British Values.
It is important that you continue to listen to your child read as often as possible and record this in their organiser. Reward tokens will be given each week to children who have read at home 3 or more times, so signing your child's organiser helps to make sure they get the recognition they deserve.
Please encourage your child to practise multiplication tables for five minutes each day. They should know the 2, 5 and 10 times tables from year 2, the 3 and 4 times tables from last term and be well on their way to learning the 8 times table, which we also began last term. Rapid recall of tables is essential as without secure knowledge of these, children will struggle with the multiplication and division work expected in the new curriculum. Spellings or a spelling task will be given out weekly and these may sometimes be tested as a list, but more often through the dictation of sentences in their English books, so the words are being used in context.
Homework will continue to be given out every Friday and should be returned by the following Thursday. However, for the first two weeks the homework is a free choice art or design project, which we hope you will find time to support your child in completing. We would like the children to research the Ancient Egyptians and spend some time creating an art piece, model or collage linked to this topic that they can share with the class and explain what they have discovered. This was an extremely popular activity with children last time we set the task and the children produced some super work at home.
As last term, swimming will continue on Tuesday afternoons and we much appreciate the parent support you provide each week.
If you have any questions or comments, or would like to help out with anything we are doing in school, then please feel free to come and speak to us.
Thank you for your support,
Miss Smith and Mrs Daykin.

Y3 - Autumn 2015
Dear Parents/Carers,
Welcome back to school and we hope you have all had a lovely summer. This is an exciting time for your children now they have joined Key Stage 2 and we hope they will be very happy in our class.
You will find a curriculum map of the main activities for this term here. Where appropriate, subjects will be linked to our Geography topic. There will also be a cross-curricular emphasis throughout school on the children understanding and demonstrating British Values. The Department for Education is encouraging all schools to promote Democracy, The Rule of Law, Mutual Respect and Tolerance and Individual Liberty. This will obviously be done at an appropriate level and using suitable vocabulary for the age of the children.
Your child should already have their new personal organiser. Please take some time to read and sign this if you haven’t already and feel free to use it for sending messages to school. It is important that you continue to listen to your child read as often as possible and record this in their organiser. We will reward children who consistently read at home, so signing your child's organiser helps to make sure they get the recognition they deserve.
As well as reading with your child, please encourage them to practise times tables for 5 minutes each day. They should already know the 2, 5 and 10 times tables and we will be revisiting these as well as learning the 3s and 4s this term. Spellings or a spelling task will be given out weekly and usually tested on Fridays. Homework will be given out every Friday and should be returned by the following Thursday.
The class will be swimming every Tuesday, beginning on 8th September, however we will sometimes do additional PE sessions so your child’s kit should be kept in school or returned every Monday if taken home. Homework will be given out on Fridays and should be returned by the following Thursday at the latest.
If you have any questions or comments, or would like to help out with anything we are doing in school, then please feel free to come and speak to us.
Thank you for your support,
Miss Smith and Mrs Daykin.
