Year 1 Newsletters
Spring 2016
Dear Parents/Carers,
Happy New Year to everyone!
Welcome back to school and we hope you have all had a lovely Christmas.
We hope that your children have settled into KS1 and continue to enjoy school. It is essential that they are reading every evening and that this is being recorded within their diaries. We will reward children who have read at home so signing your child’s diary helps to ensure they get the recognition they deserve. Also, it is important that they are practising their spellings each week as this will really help them to progress with both their reading and writing.
As before spellings will be given out weekly and usually tested on Fridays. Homework will be given out on a Friday and should be returned by the following Friday.
You will find a curriculum map of the main activities for this term on the back of this page. Last week to kick-start our topic we took part in a Partake theatre session about the Great Fire of London.
P.E will continue to take place every Tuesday and Thursday. P.E kits should be kept in school until the half term. No jewellery should be worn on both these days so please ensure any earrings are removed before school.
If you have any questions or comments, or would like to help out with anything we are doing in school, then please feel free to come and speak to us.
Thank you for your support,
Miss Catton, Mrs Wilson and Mrs Bardwell

Autumn 2015
Dear Parents/Carers,
Welcome back to school and we hope you have all had a lovely summer.
This is an exciting time for your children now they have joined key stage 1 and we hope they will be very happy in our class.
You will find a curriculum map of the main activities for this term here. Also, throughout school there will be a cross-curricular emphasis on the children understanding and demonstrating British Values. The Department of Education is encouraging all schools to promote Democracy, The rule of Law, Mutual Respect and Tolerance and Individual Liberty. This will obviously be done at an appropriate level and using suitable vocabulary for the age of the children.
Your child should already have their new personal organiser with lovely designs on by children in the school. Please take some time to read and sign this if you haven’t already and feel free to use it for sending messages to school. The children’s reading targets can be found in the front of their reading diary. They will be working towards these in class. It is important that you continue to listen to your child read every day and record this in their organisers. We will reward children who consistently read at home, so signing your child's organiser helps to make sure they get the recognition they deserve.
As well as reading with your child, please encourage and help them to practice their spellings. Spellings will be given out weekly and tested on Fridays. These will be given within their personal organiser and they have also a spelling book where they can practice. Also, we encourage that children are practising their counting at home when possible. We will be focusing on counting in 2, 5s and 10s backwards and forwards which will help children throughout their numeracy.
Homework will be handed out on a Friday and should be returned by the following Thursday.
P.E will take place every Thursday afternoon and P.E kits should be kept in school until the half term. Also, jewellery must not be worn on this day. Please remember that if you child has not got their PE kit or are wearing earrings they will not be able to participate in the lesson for health and safety.
If you have any questions or comments, or would like to help out with anything we are doing in school, then please feel free to come and speak to us.
Thank you for your support,
Miss Catton and Mrs Bardwell
