Year 1 - Enrichment Activities
Lights, Camera APP-tion Film Festival
A big well done to Kitty, Theo, Saleem, Faith, Ava and Diana from Year1, and Bob and Tiba from Year 5 who were entered into the Lights, Camera APP-tion Film Festival at the New Art Exchange. Their iPad projects were showcased on the big screen and viewed by school children and parents all over the city. Year 1 entered their independent work on ‘The Great Fire of London’ using the Lego Movie app and Year 5 used iMovie to make a news report based on the Mount Merapi eruption.
Recycling
At school we have been thinking of recycling and keeping our world clean. We began the week with an assembly which kick started the topic and got us thinking of how we could recycle in school. On Tuesday 24th May, the children in Year 1 were able to see the rubbish truck and how it works. We got to sit in the front of the truck and watch rubbish be collected at the back.

Fire Station
Our role play area has changed again! This half term we have been pretending to be Firemen and Firewomen in order to keep the school safe.
‘I love getting to go in the fire engine.’ – Mikolaj
‘It’s important to stay safe from fire.’ - Faith
Fire Service Visit
On Thursday the 17th March the Fire Service visited Year 1 and 2!
We were really lucky to have the fire service join us at St. Mary’s for a whole morning. First, we were given a fire safety talk where we learnt how to dial 999, the stop, drop and roll technique if we ever were caught on fire and all about fire alarms. Then we were able to explore the fire engine and all the important equipment firemen and women need. Year 1 had a fantastic time finding out all about the job of the fire service and particularly loved using the hose and wearing the helmets. |

Christmas Craft Day
On Wednesday 16th December, the whole school had a Christmas craft day to prepare us for celebrating.
We spent the day working together on Christmas Crafts and by the end of the day children had made cards, angel decorations and reindeer.
They worked well together and had a fun and happy day full of activity.

Exploring
This term our outdoor exploring area is a bakery to link to the Great Fire of London. We have had great fun rolling out the dough and cooking it in our oven.

Exploring 2
After the half term our exploring areas changed again. We have really enjoyed learning in them particularly our rock pool! In the rock pool there are lots of different creatures just like at the beach.
Sponsored Walk
Year 1 had a fantastic time on our first sponsored walk to the Arboretum! We paired up with the year 6 children and led the school all the way to the Arboretum. It was great fun to do and was great to be able to raise money for our school. We were all very tired after the walk!
Skegness
Year 1 and 2 had a fantastic day at Skegness beach! We learnt lots about the seaside and were able to compare it to our local area. While in Skegness we played in the sand, paddled in the freezing waves and took a walk around the key sites such as the pier and Jolly Fisherman.
Exploring
In year 1 we love our new exploring areas! We are working well as a team to complete dramas on the stage, build construction and pretend and act in our beach role play area.
