Welcome to the Autumn Term in Foundation 1 (Nursery)
Dear Parents & Carers,
The F1 team would like to either welcome you back from your summer holidays or welcome you and your children to the Nursery if they have recently joined. Already the children have been keen to engage in activities and have started making friends. We are looking forward to working together and enjoying lots of exciting learning opportunities. Here is some information about and an overview of the Early Years Foundation Curriculum.
The Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum
The Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum is divided into seven areas of learning and development. These are:
Personal, Social and Emotional Development
Physical Development
Communication and Language
Literacy
Mathematics
Understanding of the World
Expressive Arts and Design
Attached is an overview of the curriculum objectives we plan to cover this term. We hope this will support you in encouraging your child to talk with you about the work they are doing in F1. We will also be sending your child with a fortnightly ‘Parent Handbook, this will again let you know what we are covering on a week to week basis.
Celebration Leaves
If your child has achieved something or made you proud whilst out of Nursery, please fill in a ‘Celebration Leaf’ so we can share and celebrate their achievements with the rest of the class! The blank leaves are located in the Nursery entrance hall. When your child has shared their achievements with the class they will then place their leaf on the celebration tree. We love watching the ‘celebration tree’ grow with achievements over the year!
P.E
This year our P.E session will be carried out every Friday. Please ensure you send your child that day in appropriate footwear e.g. trainers
Cooking Money
Every term we ask for a donation of £2. This money is used to provide ingredients and resources for cooking and special activities. Many thanks to the parents and carers who have already sent in their contribution.
Outdoors
A big part of the F1 curriculum takes place outside and we will be going out in all weather conditions. We ask that your child wears appropriate clothing according to the weather.
· Wet days - A waterproof raincoat with a hood
· Cold days - A warm coat, hat, scarf and gloves
· Sunny days - A sun hat and sun cream (please apply in the morning before school)
Stay and Play Sessions and Parent/Carer Workshops
Throughout the year we will hold Stay and Play Sessions. These are sessions where you can come to school and work with your child for part of a session in F1. At the beginning of each session we will hold a Parent/Carer Workshop on aspects of the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum and how you can support your child’s learning. Parents and Carers have found these to be very useful sessions in previous years and they have thoroughly enjoyed working with their child in class.
Our first Stay and Play will be held on the 9th and 10th of November. We will hand out allocated slots nearer the time.
Many thanks for your support,
The Nursery Team
